Basketball Game Preview: Clovis West Golden Eagles vs. Clovis North Broncos

Clovis West is 8-2 against Clovis North since April of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Clovis West Golden Eagles will take on the Clovis North Broncos at 5:30 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Clovis West took a loss when they played away from home on Monday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They breezed by Clovis to the tune of 87-54. Given the Golden Eagles' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 132nd, while the Cougars are ranked 406th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Dj Stickman continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a triple-double on 25 points, 15 rebounds, and 11 assists. The matchup was his eighth in a row with at least ten points. Jace Kellogg was another key player, going 5 of 9 en route to 13 points and five boards.

They weren't the only one working in the assists department: Clovis West was working as a unit and finished the game with 25 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since the start of last season.

Meanwhile, Clovis North entered their game against Buchanan on Tuesday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. Clovis North took a 66-58 hit to the loss column at the hands of Buchanan.

Clovis North's defeat ended an 18-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 17-5. As for Clovis West, their victory bumped their record up to 10-13.

Clovis West won a contest that couldn't have been any closer when the teams last played back in February of 2024, slipping by Clovis North 60-59. The rematch might be a little tougher for Clovis West since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
