Baseball Recap: Johnsburg Takes a Loss

If Johnsburg was riding high fresh off their 7-1 takedown of Woodstock on Wednesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Skyhawks fell just short of the McHenry Warriors by a score of 4-3 on Saturday. The loss continues a trend for the Skyhawks in their meetings with the Warriors: they've now lost five in a row.

Deegan Turner was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Landon Johnson made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.

Johnsburg's defeat dropped their record down to 17-7. As for McHenry, they are on a roll lately: they've won 17 of their last 18 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-2-1 record this season.

Johnsburg and McHenry should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings. The Skyhawks will challenge Harvard at 4:33 p.m. on Monday with a big rank advantage (163 vs. 554). Meanwhile, McHenry (ranked seventh) will meet Crystal Lake South (ranked 115th) at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
