American Heritage is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They came out on top against Key West by a score of 9-5.
Dylan Dubovik made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing five innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Dubovik was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.
In other pitching news, Santiago Montiel looked comfortable as he pitched 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in 11 consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, Jordan Rich was a standout: he went 1-for-4 with one home run, two stolen bases, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Sebastian Garavito, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Belen Jesuit, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Merritt Island a 2-0 shutout on Thursday.
The result came thanks to Victor Escobar's shutout, as he gave up just three hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Belen Jesuit is 4-2 when he allows at most one earned run, but 12-14 otherwise.
At the plate, Jose Batista was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April. David Del Pino was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.
American Heritage pushed their record up to 25-6 with the win, which was their tenth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Belen Jesuit, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 16-16 record this season.
American Heritage took their win against Belen Jesuit when the teams last played back in March by a conclusive 11-0 score. Will the Patriots repeat their success, or do the Wolverines have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
