Softball Game Preview: Sandpoint Bulldogs vs. Lewiston Bengals

Sandpoint hasn't had much luck against Lewiston recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. The Bulldogs will face off against the Bengals at 12:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

As a matter of fact, Sandpoint put up the most runs they have all season last Tuesday. They blew past Bonners Ferry 13-3. The Bulldogs not only won last Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since March 21, 2024 (when they won 21-2).

The team relied heavily on Arah Stevens, who went 2-for-3 with two doubles and one RBI. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high.

Meanwhile, Lewiston entered their tilt with Moscow on Thursday with three consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with four. They put the hurt on the Bears with a sharp 23-5 win. 23 seems to be a good number for the Bengals as the team scooped up a victory with the same number of runs in their previous game.

Mayonna Miller was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Another player making a difference was Shelby Arellano, who went 4-for-5 with three runs, three RBI, and one double.

Lewiston was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .692. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .323 or higher in five consecutive contests.

The win made it two in a row for Sandpoint and bumps their season record up to 3-13. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.5 runs over those games. As for Lewiston, the win got them back to even at 10-10.

Sandpoint might still be hurting after the 10-2 loss they got from Lewiston when the teams last played back in March. Can the Bulldogs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
