Volleyball Recap: Mt. Carmel Sundevils vs. Mira Mesa Marauders
Mt. Carmel was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Mira Mesa Marauders. The Sundevils were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Marauders earlier this season, when they won 2-1.
Mt. Carmel started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 20-25, 25-14, 25-20, 25-20.
Omar Berrios paced Mt. Carmel's offense, picking up nine kills. Berrios got some help from Lewis Martinez and his 20 assists. Jacob Maxfield controlled things from the service line, finishing with three aces.
Among those leading the charge was Ejaykeoni Lumanlan, who had 11 digs and five assists. Those five assists gave him a new career-high. Nathan Montemayor also deserves some recognition as he had his first kill of the season.
Mt. Carmel's loss dropped their record down to 7-9. As for Mira Mesa, their victory bumped their record up to 7-8.
