Baseball Recap: Dayton Gets the Win

It's playoff time, and Dayton had no trouble coming through when it counted. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Fernley Vaqueros 8-7. The win continues a trend for the Dust Devils in their matchups with the Vaqueros: they've now won four in a row.

Jordan Kennedy tossed a big game, striking out ten batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Those ten strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Duke Evans, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Dallan Cowee, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double.

Dayton's victory bumped their record up to 16-13. As for Fernley, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last seven games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 19-11 record this season.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Fernley beat Dayton by a score of 7-4 later that day.
