The New Haven Rockets are taking a road trip to face off against the Mott Marauders at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
New Haven's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They were the clear victors by a 17-0 margin over Sterling Heights. The Rockets have beaten the Stallions the last five times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Stallions has come to flipping the script.
Connor Abuan and Kaden Gilbert made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Abuan tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Gilbert pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Abuan has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances. At bat, Abuan went 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI, while Gilbert went 2-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one RBI. Gilbert is becoming a predictor of New Haven's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 5-6 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, Will Bosco was a standout: he got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and two RBI. Those four runs gave him a new career-high. Angelo Licari also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.
New Haven always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .730. They are a perfect 7-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, Mott got the win against Clintondale on Friday by a conclusive 17-1.
Like New Haven, Mott also got a great game from a two-way player: Blake Wright. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Wright was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs.
In other batting news, Lucas Wypiszewski was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, one double, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Anthony Carter, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one run and one double.
Mott is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 6-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.8 runs over those games. As for New Haven, their record is now 10-6.
Everything went New Haven's way against Mott in their previous matchup back in April, as New Haven made off with a 10-3 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Rockets since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
