Basketball Recap: Hillcrest Piles Up the Points Against Opp

It was a proper cat-fight when Hillcrest duked it out withOpp on Saturday. The Hillcrest Jaguars breezed by the Opp Bobcats to the tune of 65-28. Given the Jaguars' advantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 114th, while the Bobcats are ranked 269th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

It was another big night for J.T. Barlow, who went 11 of 14 en route to 26 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jasiah Grace, who posted ten points and four steals.

Hillcrest smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in 11 consecutive matchups.

Several Bobcats players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was DJ Hines, who had five points along with six rebounds and four blocks. Conner Powers was another key player, putting up five points.

Hillcrest is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 9-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.2 points per game. As for Opp, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-4.

Hillcrest wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 59-58 victory against Escambia County on the 17th. As for Opp, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 56-43 defeat against Florala on the 16th.
