Basketball Recap: Monterey Trail Mustangs vs. Grant Pacers
The Monterey Trail Mustangs entered their tilt with the Grant Pacers with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. Monterey Trail enjoyed a cozy 79-60 win over the Pacers on Friday. Given Monterey Trail's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 38th, while the Pacers are ranked 177th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Brandon Gibson Jr, who shot 5-for-11 from deep and dropped a double-double on 39 points and 15 rebounds. Kentrell Kelly was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 15 points and 11 rebounds.
Monterey Trail has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 13 of their last 14 games, which provided a nice bump to their 22-2 record this season. As for Grant, their loss dropped their record down to 15-10.
Monterey Trail won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against the Vikings at 2:30 p.m. on February 3rd. Edison will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak. As for Grant, they will head out on the road to challenge the Titans at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Hopefully Burbank focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 on Friday.
