Basketball Recap: Halls Takes a Tough Playoff Loss

Halls and Maryville squared off in some playoff action on Saturday, but Halls had to settle for second. They took a blow against the Maryville Red Rebels, falling 81-48. While losing is never fun, the Red Devils can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked 156th, while the Red Rebels are ranked 13th).

Leading Maryville to victory were Eli Owensby and Jonathan Woodlee. Owensby shot 75% from the field en route to 14 points, while Woodlee went 6-for-11 on his way to 15 points and seven rebounds. Woodlee is also on a roll when it comes to three-point shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 40% in the last five games he's played. Another player making a difference was Grant Russell, who posted eight points.

Halls has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 13-12 record this season. The win was the fourth in a row for Maryville, bringing their record for this year to 22-11.

Halls does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Maryville, they will take on Farragut at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Maryville knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past eight games -- so hopefully Farragut likes a good challenge.
