Baseball Recap: Valhalla Comes Up Short

Valhalla had lost four straight at home dating back to last season, but on Saturday they dropped down to 2-4 to make it five. They lost 11-2 to the Hastings Yellow Jackets. Having soared to a lofty 14 runs in the game before, the Vikings couldn't push the score so high this time.

As for Hastings, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 4-5. That nine-run margin sets a new team best for them this season.

For Hastings' part, Andrew Ciszewski was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out 11 batters over 4.1 innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits (and only one walk). Those 11 strikeouts gave Ciszewski a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base and one RBI.

In other pitching news, Anthony Moore looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one walk any time he's pitched this season.

Back at the plate, Matthew Corbo was incredible, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base. What's more, he posted two hits, the most he's had since back in May of 2025. The team also got some help courtesy of Johnny Sbrega, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Valhalla will host Briarcliff at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Hastings, they will look to defend their home field on Monday against Tuckahoe at 4:30 p.m. The Tigers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.14 runs per game on average), something the Yellow Jackets will no doubt try to take advantage of.
