Softball Recap: Northern Durham Triumphs

Northern Durham was handed a 12-run loss in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Friday. They had just enough and edged out the Chapel Hill Tigers 11-10. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 7-5 on April 8th.

Sydney Woodside spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and six unearned) runs on four hits and racked up six Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Lainey Stutts and Roxy Nelson did most of the damage at the plate: Stutts went 2-for-4 with four RBI, two doubles, and one run, while Nelson went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Those two doubles gave Stutts a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Brynley Standifer, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Northern Durham kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Chapel Hill only managed six hits.

Northern Durham's win bumped their record up to 5-13. As for Chapel Hill, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost eight of their last nine games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-11 record this season.

Northern Durham wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 16-7 defeat against Jordan on the 29th. As for Chapel Hill, they have also already played their next matchup, a 15-1 victory against Hillside on the 29th.
