Basketball Game Preview: Crete-Monee Warriors vs. Thornwood Thunderbirds

The Crete-Monee Warriors will head out to face off against the Thornwood Thunderbirds at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.

Crete-Monee is headed into the game having just suffered their biggest loss since November 19, 2024 on Tuesday. They were beaten by Bishop McNamara 57-25. While losing is never fun, the Warriors can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 390th, while the Fightin' Irish are ranked 106th).

Thornwood got their first taste of in-conference action this week and they started things off strong. They rang in the new year with a 65-56 win over Thornridge on Monday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Thunderbirds.

Crete-Monee has traveled a rocky road recently having lost seven of their last nine contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-9 record this season. As for Thornwood, their victory bumped their record up to 2-16.

Crete-Monee took their win against Thornwood in their previous meeting back in December of 2024 by a conclusive 54-29. The rematch might be a little tougher for Crete-Monee since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
