Basketball Recap: Denver South Skates Past DMLK with Ease

There's no place like home for Denver South, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Wednesday. They breezed past the DMLK Panthers to the tune of 60-28 on Saturday. Given the Ravens' advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 115th, while the Panthers are ranked 314th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Denver South's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Abriella Garcia led the charge by going 5-for-8 on her way to 14 points and three steals. Alex Gehring was another key player, going 5-for-11 en route to 13 points.

Denver South smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've posted since back in December of 2023.

Despite the loss, DMLK saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Tay Hugley posted 19 points.

Denver South picked up their first home win, bumping their record up to 9-11. As for DMLK, they have been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last nine matchups, which has put a noticeable dent in their 5-13 record this season.

Denver South has already played their next game, a 50-47 defeat against Rangeview on the 18th. As for DMLK, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 46-43 loss against DSST: Conservatory Green on the 18th.
