Basketball Game Preview: Perry County Vikings vs. Houston County Fighting Irish

The Perry County Vikings will head out to take on the Houston County Fighting Irish at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Perry County is coming into the contest on a four-game losing streak.

Perry County is headed into the match out to prove that what happened against Santa Fe last Tuesday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Perry County was beaten by Santa Fe 73-29. The Vikings were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 40-10.

Despite the defeat, Perry County saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Kenner Haston posted seven points. The team also got some help courtesy of Landon Warren, who had five points and seven rebounds.

Meanwhile, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Houston County beat Waverly Central 61-55 on Tuesday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Fighting Irish.

Houston County is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a massive bump to their 3-4 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.5 points per game. As for Perry County, their loss dropped their record down to 2-4.

Perry County suffered a grim 65-43 defeat to Houston County in their previous meeting back in February. Can Perry County avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
