Baseball Recap: 17 Straight Home Victories for Marcellus

Marcellus's game last Saturday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Monday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the White Pigeon Chiefs a 10-0 shutout. With that win, the Wildcats brought their scoring average up to 6.6 runs per game.

Jakob Huber made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out 13 over six innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, Cale Hackenberg was incredible, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with three stolen bases, one triple, and one run. That run was his first of the season. Abram Coffey was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.

Marcellus' victory was their 17th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 3-2. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.9 runs over those games. As for White Pigeon, they are on a nine-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-4.

Marcellus will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Chiefs: the pair will be back at it again later today.
