After the Thundering Herd, No. 2 in the Xcellent 25 national preseason rankings, beat their cross-town rivals three times last year, they knocked off Pleasant Grove again 1-0 on Tuesday.

Winning pitcher and UC Santa Barbara-bound Shelby Wisdom not only went the distance, but she scored the game's only run and had two doubles.

Wisdom outdueled UCLA-signee and her best friend Ally Carda, who also went the distance. Carda added a single at the plate but was thrown out trying to steal late in the game.

Carda and Wisdom have played on the summer travel team since the eighth grade.

Elk Grove improved to 3-0.
