Basketball Game Preview: Evangelical Christian Eagles vs. St. George's Gryphons

Evangelical Christian hasn't had much luck against St. George recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. The Evangelical Christian Eagles will be playing in front of their home fans against the St. George's Gryphons at 3:30 p.m. Evangelical Christian knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past three matchups -- so hopefully St. George's likes a good challenge.

Two weeks ago, Evangelical Christian earned a 62-51 win over Harding Academy.

Meanwhile, St. George's came up short against Trinity Christian Academy on Friday and fell 49-41. While losing is never fun, the Gryphons can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked 98th, while the Lions are ranked 31st).

Evangelical Christian will have to keep a close watch on Carson Crump and Ontarious Odom, a pair of players who had a big impact on St. George's prior game. Crump posted 19 points and eight boards, while Odom earned eight points. Crump's evening made it four games in a row in which he has scored at least 16 points. Amir Wilson also deserves some recognition as he posted his first block of the season.

St. George's defeat dropped their record down to 17-6. As for Evangelical Christian, their victory bumped their record up to 7-14.

Evangelical Christian couldn't quite finish off St. George's when the teams last played back in January and fell 50-48. Can Evangelical Christian avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
