Baseball Recap: Moshannon Valley's Win on Thursday Extends Winning Streak to Four

Moshannon Valley took a ten-run defeat the last time they faced off against West Branch, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Black Knights/Damsels narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Warriors 6-4. Winning may never get old, but the Black Knights/Damsels sure are getting used to it with their fourth in a row.

Rocco Reifer was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over 6.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, Moshannon Valley let Zach Reifer and Mason Abernethy run wild. Reifer went 3-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base, while Abernethy went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs. Reifer is becoming a predictor of Moshannon Valley's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 5-8 when he doesn't).

Moshannon Valley's record now sits at 10-8. As for West Branch, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 11-8 record this season.

Moshannon Valley will host Rockwood at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Rockets will roll in looking for their eighth straight win, something the Black Knights/Damsels surely won't give up without a fight. As for West Branch, they will head out on the road to square off against Harmony Area at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
