Basketball Recap: Capital Sets Scoring Season-High Against Riverside

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Capital). They enjoyed a cozy 65-49 win over the Riverside Warriors on Saturday. This was payback for the Cougars, who suffered a 61-22 loss the last time these two teams met.

When it comes to explaining why Riverside lost, don't look at Cianna Groom. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double with 15 points and 14 rebounds. Groom has become a key player for Riverside: the team is 2-1 when she posts at least 15 points, but 2-15 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Ava Ward, who almost dropped a double-double with ten points and nine boards.

The victory made it two in a row for Capital and bumps their season record up to 6-12. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.5 points over those games. As for Riverside, their record is now 4-16.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Capital will challenge Hurricane at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Riverside, they will take on Scott at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Scott will roll in looking for their seventh straight win, something Riverside surely won't give up without a fight.
