Baseball Game Preview: Denton Broncos vs. Bowie Volunteers

Denton has gone a perfect 4-0 against Bowie recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Saturday. The Denton Broncos will be taking part in a tournament against the Bowie Volunteers at 11:00 a.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average, (Denton: 3.1, Bowie: 1.2) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Denton is headed into the match having just suffered their closest loss since April 18, 2024 on Friday. They fell just short of South Hills by a score of 4-2.

Denton saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Derek Perez, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one RBI. Perez has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last eight times he's played. Alden Armor also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Meanwhile, Bowie put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They put the hurt on MacArthur with a sharp 13-1 victory. The Volunteers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five games by eight runs or more this season.

The team relied heavily on Jayson Wheeler, who went 2-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in RBI. Another player making a difference was Christian Uribe, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Bowie hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most four strikeouts in four consecutive contests.

Denton's defeat dropped their record down to 3-2-2. As for Bowie, their win was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 9-0.

Denton beat Bowie 4-0 in their previous matchup back in February of 2024. Will Denton repeat their success, or does Bowie have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
