Softball Recap: Centennial Picks Up Ninth Straight Win at Home

Centennial put their dominant pitcher on display in the team's third consecutive shutout on Tuesday. They put the hurt on the Mansfield Summit Jaguars with a sharp 15-0 victory. Considering the Spartans have won 14 contests by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Kendall Cottongame looked comfortable as she tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than one walk in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Madison Haynes, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, three doubles, and four RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024. Lexie Arthur was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.

Centennial kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in 13 consecutive games.

Centennial pushed their record up to 18-6 with the win, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.9 runs on average over those games. As for Mansfield Summit, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-7 record this season.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Centennial will square off against rival Seguin at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Mansfield Summit is set to face off against their familiar foe Joshua at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
