Soccer Game Preview: Stratford vs. Tompkins

The Stratford Spartans will face off against the Tompkins Falcons at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with Stratford sitting on 17 straight victories and Tompkins on five.

Stratford is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. They never let Kingwood get on the board and left with a 3-0 win. The result was nothing new for Stratford, who have now won 17 contests by three goals or more so far this season.

Meanwhile, Tompkins won against Memorial on Tuesday with one goal and they decided to stick to that goal total again on Friday. Tompkins skirted past Fort Bend Austin 1-0. Tompkins' defense has been rock solid lately; the team hasn't given up a goal in their last three matches.

Tompkins' victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 21-2-1. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 23 goals over those five games. As for Stratford, their victory bumped their record up to 20-2-3.

Stratford skirted past Tompkins 2-1 in their previous meeting back in March of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for Stratford since the squad won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
