Basketball Recap: Eight Straight Home Wins for Mesquite

Mesquite extended their home winning streak to eight games dating back to last season thanks to a huge performance from Navae Guidry. The Mesquite Wildcats simply couldn't be stopped on Friday as they easily beat the Marcos de Niza Padres 116-7 thanks in part to Guidry, who went 14 for 19 on her way to 30 points in addition to eight steals and six boards. That's the most steals she has posted since back in January of 2024.

The team also got some help courtesy of Jensen Cowart, who posted four points along with nine rebounds, six steals, and five assists. She has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times she's played.

Mesquite's victory bumped their record up to 15-1. As for Marcos de Niza, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost nine of their last ten contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-13 record this season.

When Mesquite and Marcos de Niza next hit the court, they'll be up against teams who recently just can't seem to lose. Mesquite will try to stop St. Mary's three-game winning streak when the meet at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Mesquite is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 66.4 points per game this season. Similarly, Marcos de Niza will try to stop Cactus Shadows' three-game winning streak when the meet at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Mesquite's defense has only allowed 29.9 points per game this season, so Marcos de Niza's offense will have their work cut out for them.
