League recap: Melissa scores huge upset over Princeton

The biggest upset of the week belonged to Princeton, who took down 187th ranked Princeton, 34-21. Chris Smith threw for 146 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 38 yards in the win.

Melissa moved up to 204 from 273 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 3A Region II District 12. The Cardinals climbed the ranks as a result of beating the Panthers 34-21.

Princeton's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Jourdan Blake threw for 151 and two touchdowns and David Mckinzie had 107 yards receiving. On the ground Blake chipped in 110 yards. Jakari Dillard helped Princeton's passing attack out by catching four balls for 34 yards.

Stacey Dillard's team's Blake and Mckinzie have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Blake has thrown for 1582 yards this season, while Mckinzie, a 6-foot-1 receiver, has 32 catches for 519 yards. Melissa's Marcus Ellis leads the league in rushing yards with 1106.

A big matchup in the league this week will be when Anna takes on Seth Stinton's team. The Coyotes are in third place, while the Cardinals are in second place.

Melissa extended the longest winning streak in 3A Region II District 12 this week by beating the Panthers, 34-21. The win marks fourth in a row for the the Cardinals.
