Basketball Recap: Wade Hampton Comes Up Short

Wade Hampton was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their 15th straight defeat. They were outmatched by the Spartanburg Vikings and fell 71-18. While losing is never fun, the Generals can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 217th, while the Vikings are ranked 85th).

Wade Hampton got a good chunk of their points from the dynamic duo of Aaliyah Peace and Ava Umstetter, who each put up five points. Umstetter also led the team in rebounds with eight.

Spartanburg found their leader in sophomore De'Asia Bridges, who posted 11 points in addition to six rebounds and five steals. Bridges is becoming a predictor of Spartanburg's success: when she posts at least five steals the team is 7-3 (and 5-10 when she doesn't). Saffy Evans was another key player, putting up six points.

Wade Hampton's loss dropped their record down to 1-17. As for Spartanburg, their victory bumped their record up to 12-13.

Wade Hampton has already played their next contest, a 76-12 defeat against Dorman on the 12th. As for Spartanburg, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 55-20 win against Eastside on the 13th.
