With a playoff win on the line, Twin Springs rose to the challenge on Wednesday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Council Cobras an 18-0 shutout. The Titans' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Makenzie Gillenwater made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 13 over five innings pitched. Gillenwater was also stellar in the batter's box, firing off three home runs, four runs, and one triple while going 4-for-4. Those four runs gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Emma Ross was incredible, firing off two home runs, four RBI, and one stolen base while going 4-for-5. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Aubrey Meade, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Twin Springs was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .737. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
With the victory, Twin Springs broke their four-game losing streak and moved their record to 15-7. As for Council, they now have a losing record of 7-8.
Looking ahead, Twin Springs will head out to take on Chilhowie at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Warriors' pitching crew has only allowed 3.2 runs per game this season, so the Titans' hitters will have their work cut out for them. Council does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
