Flag Football Recap: Leila Essex Leads Lithia Springs' Defense on Wednesday

Lithia Springs put their dominant defense on display in the team's third consecutive shutout on Wednesday. Their defense stepped up to hand Westlake a 6-0 shutout. That's more bragging rights for Lithia Springs, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Among those leading the charge was Leila Essex, who picked up 65 receiving yards and one TD. She was even better on defense, making one tackle and defending two passes in addition to snagging three interceptions.

Lithia Springs didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. In fact, those interceptions all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Essex.

Lithia Springs' record now sits at 3-0. As for Westlake, their loss was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-3.

Coming up, Lithia Springs will square off against North Oconee at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Westlake, they will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Jackson at 6:00 p.m. on the 20th. The Jaguars will roll in looking for their sixth straight victory, something the Lions surely won't give up without a fight.
