Baseball Game Preview: Timpview Thunderbirds vs. Springville Red Devils

For the second straight game, Timpview will face off against Springville. The Thunderbirds will welcome the Red Devils at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. Timpview is on a five-game streak of home losses, and Springville a ten-game streak of away losses dating back to last season. However, someone's due for a change in luck.

The home team had won the previous three meetings between Timpview and Springville, and Springville kept the tradition alive. The Thunderbirds took a 13-8 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Red Devils on Tuesday.

For Springville's part, Kasen Torres was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over 6.1 innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. That's the most strikeouts Torres has posted since back in March. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. That stolen base was his first of the season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Hugh Redd, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. He has become a key player for Springville: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 3-14 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Preston Hansen, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Springville was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .414. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Springville's victory bumped their record up to 7-14. As for Timpview, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-15.
