Basketball Recap: Maplewood Piles Up the Points Against Liberty

Maplewood won against Lakeview last Saturday with 55 points and they decided to stick to that point total again on Monday. The Maplewood Rockets blew past the Liberty Leopards, posting a 55-19 win. The Rockets have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four contests by 21 points or more this season.

Maplewood's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Lauran Krieg led the charge by going 9 for 18 on her way to 19 points in addition to eight boards and five steals. Krieg has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Claire Urchek, who posted 13 points along with seven rebounds and six assists.

Maplewood smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 11 consecutive matches dating back to last season.

Maplewood's victory was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-0. As for Liberty, they are on a ten-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-9.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Maplewood will venture away from home to square off against John F. Kennedy Catholic at 1:45 p.m. on Friday. Maplewood is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 55.9 points per game this season. As for Liberty, they will head out to face off against Crestview at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
