Softball Recap: Canyon Lake Comes Up Short

If Canyon Lake was riding high fresh off their 15-3 takedown of Bandera last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Canyon Lake fell just short of the Wimberley Texans by a score of 7-6 on Friday. Canyon Lake hasn't had much luck with Wimberley recently, as the team has come up short the last six times they've met.

Rianna Gonzales and Aubrey Long were huge no matter where they played even without the win. Throwing, Gonzales tossed four innings while giving up just one earned (and six unearned) runs off three hits. Meanwhile, Long pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Gonzales has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in ten consecutive appearances. At the plate, Gonzales scored a run while going 3-for-4, while Long scored a run while going 1-for-3.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Kelsey Unrue, who went 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI. Marley Christian was another, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

Canyon Lake's loss dropped their record down to 6-11. As for Wimberley, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 9-14 record this season.

Canyon Lake will venture away from home to take on Navarro at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Canyon Lake are facing the Panthers at the right time seeing as the Panthers are stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Wimberley, they will be playing at home against Bandera at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Texans will also cruise into their next contest with the timing on their side: the BULLDOGS will have lost 15 straight heading into Tuesday's game.
