Basketball Recap: Franklin Central Beats Avon for Their Fifth Straight Victory

Franklin Central waltzed into their match on Friday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They took down the Avon Orioles 58-41. The Flashes have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Orioles, too.

Franklin Central's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Lily Graves, who went 7 for 11 on her way to 19 points and seven boards. Ashlee Baker was another key player, putting up ten points and three steals.

Franklin Central was working as a unit and finished the game with 17 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Avon only racked up nine assists.

Despite the loss, Avon still got an impressive performance from Makaylee Butts, who posted 22 points. That's the most points Butts has posted since back in December of 2023. Another player making a difference was Mya Thompson, who had six points.

Franklin Central is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 14-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.9 points per game. As for Avon, they have been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last nine games, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-10 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Franklin Central will challenge Plainfield at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Plainfield is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 59.8 points per game this season. As for Avon, they will face off against Fishers at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
