Baseball Recap: Peotone Victorious

Peotone took a ten-run defeat the last time they faced off against Streator, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Blue Devils had just enough and edged out the Bulldogs 5-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Blue Devils have posted since March 18th.

Ruben Velasco made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched six innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off eight hits. Velasco was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run and four RBI. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high.

Velasco wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Tyler Leitelt, who went 1-for-4 with one run.

Peotone is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 5-10 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Streator, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-11.

Peotone will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Bulldogs: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
