Softball Game Preview: Organ Mountain Knights vs. Alamogordo Tigers

Organ Mountain is 0-10 against Alamogordo since April of 2022 but things could change on Monday. The Knights will head out on the road to take on the Tigers at 5:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Organ Mountain has four straight wins, Alamogordo has four straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Organ Mountain gave up the first runs on Thursday, but they didn't let that get them down. They blew past Gadsden 17-7. The Knights might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four contests by seven runs or more this season.

Leah Melero was incredible, going 4-for-5 with one home run, four runs, and four RBI. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. Emily Lucero was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4.

Melero wasn't the only one making solid contact: Organ Mountain kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 20 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in six consecutive matchups.

Meanwhile, Alamogordo faced Centennial in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Tigers lost 15-8 to the Hawks.

Organ Mountain's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-3-1. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.6 runs over those games. As for Alamogordo, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-5.

Organ Mountain couldn't quite finish off Alamogordo when the teams last played back in April of 2024 and fell 3-1. Can the Knights avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
