Recap: Carver Tigers vs. Palm Bay Pirates
If the Carver Tigers were feeling good off their 80-28 takedown of the Columbus Blue Devils on Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. 2024 welcomed Carver with a 85-62 loss courtesy of Palm Bay on Friday. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Several Tigers players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jazmin Thornton , who scored 17 points along with seven rebounds. Thornton is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last four games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Camryn Thomas, who scored nine points along with eight steals.
Palm Bay got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Jaida Civil out in front who dropped a triple-double on 13 points, 13 rebounds, and 11 assists. Kiara Williams was another key contributor, scoring 18 points along with five rebounds.
Carver's loss dropped their record down to 8-5. As for Palm Bay, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 10-4 record this season.
Carver is on the road again on Saturday and play against Oak Cliff Faith Family Academy at 1:00 p.m. on January 6th. Oak Cliff Faith Family Academy will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in their respective state's rankings (they are ranked 725th in Texas, while Carver is ranked 37th in Georgia). Palm Bay won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Campbell at 1:15 p.m. on January 6th. Campbell knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past three games -- so hopefully Palm Bay likes a good challenge.
