Softball Recap: Chicago Christian Takes a Loss

Chicago Christian extended their losing streak to 11 on Saturday, dropping their season record down to 1-12 in the process. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 7-6 heartbreaker at the hands of the Peotone Blue Devils. The Knights were not able to make up for their loss to the Blue Devils from their previous meeting back in April of 2023.

Chicago Christian saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Abby Rashan, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one run.

As for Peotone, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 9-8. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 1.33 runs across that stretch.

On Peotone's side, Sophie Klawitter was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Klawitter has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jillian Roark, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ava Kosmos, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Chicago Christian will square off against Chicago Hope Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Chicago Christian's pitchers better be ready for this one: Chicago Hope Academy has averaged an impressive 8 runs per game this season. As for Peotone, they will face off against Reed-Custer at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
