Baseball Recap: Silver Stage Comes Up Short

Silver Stage had lost seven straight at home, but on Saturday they dropped their record down to 6-21 to make it eight. They fell just short of the Pershing County Mustangs by a score of 5-4. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since April 30, 2024, but that streak is no more.

Joseph Kelley made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs.

As for Pershing County, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 10-16. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games.

On Pershing County's side, Tyler Miller and Wyatt Hughes made a splash no matter where they played. On the mound, Miller tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Hughes tossed four innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits. Miller has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. At bat, Miller got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, while Hughes went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run. Miller is becoming a predictor of Pershing County's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 7-16 when he doesn't).

They weren't the only ones making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Trenton Rhodes, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.

While Silver Stage had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair will be back at it again later today.
