Basketball Recap: Deerfield Takes a Loss

After flying high against Moscow back in December of 2024, Deerfield came back down to earth. The Deerfield Spartans took a blow against the Southwestern Heights Mustangs on Tuesday, falling 68-34. The matchup marked the Spartans' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Deerfield's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Trey Hill, who posted six points and six rebounds. The dominant performance gave Hill a new career-high in points. Cristian Botello was another key player, putting up six points.

Deerfield moved to 4-3 with that loss, which also ended their three-game winning streak. As for Southwestern Heights, they now also have a winning record of 4-3.

Deerfield is headed away from home for the first time to take on Satanta at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. Deerfield is facing Satanta at the right time seeing as Satanta is stuck on a five-game losing streak. As for Southwestern Heights, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Wichita County at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
