Volleyball Recap: King's Academy Lions vs. North Broward Prep Eagles
After flying high against St. John Paul II Academy last Tuesday, King's Academy came back down to earth. The Lions fell just short of the North Broward Prep Eagles by a score of 3-2 on Tuesday. The Lions were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Eagles apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in September of 2019.
King's Academy started the match hot and won the first two sets, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 22-25, 23-25, 25-18, 25-16, 15-5.
Mikayla Matuszko paced King's Academy's offense, picking up 17 kills. Matuszko got some help from Hunter Saltalamacchia and her 22 assists. Bella Pons controlled things from the service line, finishing with two aces.
Destiny Wiggins was nothing short of spectacular for North Broward Prep: she had 31 digs and six assists. Those 31 digs gave Wiggins a new career-high.
King's Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 1-1. As for North Broward Prep, the win keeps them at an undefeated 4-0.
Looking ahead, King's Academy will take on Cornerstone Christian at 11:00 a.m. on Friday. As for North Broward Prep, they will challenge Somerset Academy - Canyons at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
