Football Game Preview: Waynedale Golden Bears vs. Northwestern Huskies

The Waynedale Golden Bears will venture away from home to face off against the Northwestern Huskies at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Waynedale will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more points each matchup than the last.

Waynedale is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They strolled past Chippewa with points to spare on Friday, taking the game 23-7. The Golden Bears haven't had any issues with the Chipps recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive win against them.

Maddox Kidd had an outrageously good game as he rushed for 120 yards and two touchdowns on only eight carries, and also threw for 116 yards and one TD. Those 120 rushing yards gave him a new career-high.

Waynedale's run defense was locked in: Chippewa could only muster -0.4 yards per carry. The team can thank Reid McKelvey for the heroic effort on defense: he. Waynedale didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 5.7.

Waynedale didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. In fact, those interceptions all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Jayden Hochstetler.

Meanwhile, Northwestern was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They took a blow against Hillsdale, falling 49-7. While losing is never fun, the Huskies can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio football rankings (they are ranked 587th, while the Falcons are ranked 133rd).

Northwestern's defeat dropped their record down to 1-7. As for Waynedale, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-7.

Waynedale took their win against Northwestern in their previous matchup back in October of 2024 by a conclusive 49-28 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Golden Bears since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
