Volleyball Recap: Burton's Run of Nine Straight Wins Now Over

After a string of nine wins, Burton's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They took a 2-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Iola Bulldogs. The Panthers were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Bulldogs earlier this season, when they won 2-1.

Lexi Broesche paced Burton's offense, picking up five kills. Broesche got some help from Laci Broesche and her eight assists. Finally, Lexi was also a dominant defender, finishing with a team-high two blocks.

Burton's loss dropped their record down to 20-7. As for Iola, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 13-4.

Coming up, Burton will take on Weimar in a tournament on Saturday. As for Iola, they will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Coldspring-Oakhurst at 6:00 p.m. on September 9.
