Basketball Recap: Sugar Creek Wildcats vs. Jackson Day Mariners
The Sugar Creek Wildcats were handed a three-point loss in their last contest, but they sure didn't let that happen against the Jackson Day Mariners on Friday. Sugar Creek really took it to the Mariners for the full four quarters, racking up a 66-39 victory at home. Sugar Creek pushed the score to 47-26 by the end of the third, a deficit the Mariners had little chance of recovering from.
Sugar Creek's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jerry Kuttas led the charge by scoring 15 points. It was the first time this season that Kuttas scored 15 or more points. Terry Watson was another key contributor, scoring 14 points.
Sugar Creek's victory bumped their record up to 13-9. As for Jackson Day, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 15-17.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Sugar Creek will face off against the Comets at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Carolina International is coming into the match hot, having won their last six games. Jackson Day's road trip will continue as they head out to face the Thunder at 7:30 p.m. on February 6th. The timing is sure in South Charlotte T's favor as the team sits on five straight wins at home while the Mariners have been banged up by three consecutive losses on the road.
