Preview: West Ashley Wildcats vs. Hanahan Hawks
West Ashley has enjoyed the comforts of home their last three games, but now they'll head out on the road. The West Ashley Wildcats and the Hanahan Hawks will round out the year against one another at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday at. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.
Two weeks ago, West Ashley ended up a good deal behind Wando and lost 53-35.
Despite the defeat, West Ashley had strong showings from Lacy Gerald, who scored 12 points, and Ella Crowe, who scored eight points along with five rebounds.
Meanwhile, Hanahan struggled with threes on Wednesday (Stall had six more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Hanahan took a 56-44 hit to the loss column at the hands of Stall. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Hanahan in their matchups with Stall: they've now lost five in a row.
Despite the loss, Hanahan had strong showings from Jaylah Hughes, who dropped a double-double on 26 points and ten rebounds, and Bri Johnsen, who scored 13 points along with six rebounds and six steals. Hughes scored a full 59.1% of Hanahan's points, the sixth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ashtyn Adams, who scored two points along with six rebounds and three steals.
West Ashley's loss dropped their record down to 2-6. As for Hanahan, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-5.
Thursday's contest is shaping up to be a scrappy matchup: West Ashley have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 20.2 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Hanahan, though, as they've been averaging only 25.4 rebounds per game.
