Volleyball Preview: West Bladen Knights vs. Fairmont Golden Tornadoes
The West Bladen Knights will head out to square off against the Fairmont Golden Tornadoes at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. West Bladen will be strutting in after a victory while Fairmont will be coming in after a loss.
West Bladen will bounce into Tuesday's matchup after beating Whiteville, who they had gone 1-8 against in their nine prior meetings. The Knights were the clear victors by a 3-0 margin over the Wolfpack on Thursday.
Meanwhile, Fairmont didn't have quite enough to beat South Columbus on Thursday and fell 3-2. The Golden Tornadoes have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back matches.
In a back-and-forth that saw neither team win consecutive sets, Fairmont sadly dropped the once that decided the match. The match finished with set scores of 25-20, 18-25, 25-13, 12-25, 15-9.
Despite the defeat, Fairmont saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Jerrian Taylor had 17 digs and one assist. Taylor is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had ten or more in each of the last ten games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Layla Hunt, who had 14 assists and nine aces.
West Bladen's win was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 11-2. As for Fairmont, their loss dropped their record down to 4-12.
West Bladen took their victory against Fairmont in their previous meeting on September 11th by a conclusive 3-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Knights since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
