Baseball Recap: McCluer Comes Up Short

McCluer dropped their record down to 5-7 on Thursday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins at home. They lost 18-0 to the St. Dominic Crusaders. Having soared to a lofty 20 runs in the game before, the Comets' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

As for St. Dominic, their record is now 21-9-1. The result was nothing new for the Crusaders, who have now won 11 matches by six runs or more so far this season.

For St. Dominic's part, Brennan Swindler made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Swindler has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April.

In other pitching news, Dylan Dawson looked comfortable as he pitched 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.

Back at the plate, Kolt Hopper was a standout: he went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Anthony Flamm Jr., who went a perfect 2-for-2 with five RBI, one stolen base, and one run.

As of now, neither McCluer nor St. Dominic have any future games scheduled.
