Basketball Recap: West Davidson's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Tuesday

It was a good run, but West Davidson unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Tuesday. They received a blow as they fell 54-37 to the Lexington Yellowjackets. While losing is never fun, the Dragons can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 333rd, while the Yellowjackets are ranked 148th).

Lexington got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Maliyah Johnson out in front who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 12 boards. That's the most rebounds Johnson has posted since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Lily Ervin, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 11 boards.

West Davidson's loss dropped their record down to 7-11. As for Lexington, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 16-4 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. West Davidson will host North Rowan at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. West Davidson is facing North Rowan at the right time seeing as North Rowan is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Lexington, it'll be a Battle of the Bugs the Lexington Yellowjackets duke it out with the Salisbury Hornets at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Lexington is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 53.8 points per game this season.
