Football Recap: Richmond Takes a Loss

Richmond extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping them down to 1-5. They were outmatched by the Muncie Central Bearcats and fell 54-20. While losing is never fun, the Red Devils can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana football rankings (they are ranked 241st, while the Bearcats are ranked 98th).

When it comes to explaining why Richmond lost, don't look at Thomas Stargell. Despite the final result, he rushed for 47 yards and a pair of TDs, and also threw for 132 yards and one touchdown.

As for Muncie Central, the win got them back to even at 3-3. They haven't had any issues with Richmond recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.

Dae'Cion Echols was a one-man wrecking crew as he rushed for 50 yards and four scores. That's the most rushing touchdowns he has posted since back in October of 2024. Another player making a difference was Landan Johnson, who rushed for 89 yards and one TD.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Richmond will head out to face off against Marion at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Giants will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more points each matchup than the last. As for Muncie Central, they will venture away from home to square off against Anderson at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Bearcats will be up against the Indians' rather soft defense (which has allowed 51.17 points per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
