Softball Recap: Ponaganset Chieftains vs. Chariho Chargers
Ponaganset had lost three straight on the road, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 2-5 to make it four. They fell 8-3 to the Chariho Chargers. If the Chieftains were looking for revenge after losing 8-6 to the Chargers when the teams met back in May of 2023, then they'll just have to keep looking.
Maia Salvo was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
As for Chariho, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-4. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 5 runs in those games.
On Chariho's side, Adriana Jeannenot made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out 15 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. Jeannenot has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with three runs, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Kesten Hanks was excellent, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and one run. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Brianna DeGiacomo, who earned one RBI and two runs.
We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Ponaganset will challenge rival East Providence at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Chariho is set to take on their familiar foe Smithfield at 4:45 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Chargers 2.6, the Sentinels 2.5) so any runs scored will be well earned.
