Football Recap: Jett Flores' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Uvalde over Somerset

Uvalde had lost six straight at home dating back to last season, but on Friday they dropped down to 2-4 to make it seven. They lost 43-22 to the Somerset Bulldogs. Despite 64 more yards than the Bulldogs, the Coyotes/Lobos (for girls) couldn't convert that extra yardage to scores.

Several Coyotes/Lobos (for girls) players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jett Flores, who threw for 298 yards and three touchdowns, and also rushed for 42 yards. Diego Granados also helped with two TDs in total.

As for Somerset, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 4-1. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 28 points.

Somerset's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Malakai Iverson led the charge by picking up 126 receiving yards and three scores. Iverson showed off some serious burst, lighting up the secondary with a catch for 54 yards. Kaleb Flores was another key player, throwing for 198 yards and three touchdowns while completing 76.5% of his passes.

Coincidentally, Uvalde and Somerset will both be playing Canyon Lake the next time they take the field. The Bulldogs will host the Hawks at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, while the Coyotes/Lobos (for girls) will head out to face them at 7:00 p.m. on the 17th.
