Soccer Game Preview: New London vs. Griswold

The New London Whalers will face off against the Griswold Wolverines at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Neither squad made it on the board the last time they hit the pitch, so they've probably got a bit of extra motivation.

New London is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Connecticut's top teams: East Lyme, who was ranked first at the time (New London was ranked 16th). The Whalers came up short against the Vikings on Thursday, falling 7-0. The loss continues a trend for New London in their meetings with East Lyme: they've now lost seven in a row.

Meanwhile, Griswold kept a clean sheet against Montville last Friday. They won by a goal and slipped past Wolves 1-0. The game was the first time Griswold have beaten Montville on their pitch since September 10, 2022.

Having lost for the first time this season, New London fell to 6-1-1. As for Griswold, the victory got them back to even at 3-3.

Everything went New London's way against Griswold when the teams last played on September 5th, as New London made off with a 3-0 win. Will the Whalers repeat their success, or do the Wolverines have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
